Camp Information Sheet

for the Whitehorse Camps
(Ages 7-9: July 12, August 2 and 23, Ages 10-12: July 19 and August 9)

Times: Camp will start at 9:00 am and run until 4:00 pm. If you will be late picking your child up after camp please let us know by calling the Beringia Centre (ph: 667-8855)

Breaks: There will be two fifteen minute snack breaks and one lunch break that will last about ½ hour. Children should bring their own lunch and snacks for these times.

Clothing: Overall, we would recommend wearing older clothing as kids will be doing an excavation and might get dirty. Campers should bring suitable outdoor clothing, depending on the weather, as well as sunscreen and insect repellent. Some of our crafts can get a bit messy so kids should also bring an old shirt to protect their clothes.

Activities: the following activities are a part of most of our camps.

  • Learning about prehistoric tools
  • Making a spear-thrower (atlatl)
  • Playing a round of "Atlatl Golf"
  • Talking to scientists
  • Learning about First Nation oral history
  • Learning to excavate a mock site
  • Playing a variety of games
  • Watching videos

If your child should be unable to attend the camp they have registered for, please notify the staff at the Beringia Centre (ph: 667-8855) at your earliest convenience so we might offer the spot to others.
